My husband and I recently took a road trip to Savannah complete with my trusty sidekick Layla Bean in tow! Layla is my dog and she loves car rides, airplane rides, hotels and generally any place I am, her favorite place being cuddles in bed. We ran off to spend a couple of days in beautiful Savannah, Georgia. We had such a wonderful time we ate amazing food, went on a spooky carriage ride, went to cemeteries (you must when in Savannah) and walked along some of the most historic cobblestone streets.
Many believe that Savannah is haunted, shocker, I know. But I never really thought much of it till I actually went. We went on a late night Haunted Carriage ride throughout historic Savannah. It was the best thing ever!!! The driver took us to all the historical squares and said why they were haunted. One square in Savannah has a full on breeze running through it, but once you step one foot outside of it the breeze stops. But that was not the highlight the best thing was the CVS in Savannah. Apparently it is the only CVS in America that closes its doors exactly at 9:00pm! Yes if you need your meds in Savannah you better go early! The driver went on to tell us how a CVS corrporate representative got upset that they were closing early and came down to change it when the employees said it was haunted. So the rep decided to stay the night inside the CVS to make sure they were telling the truth. Sure enough the ghosts came out and started throwing medicine bottles at his head. After that, the CVS in Savannah was always allowed to close its doors at 9pm! Crazy!! We went by the CVS at 9:30pm and it was all locked up with lights out. I couldn't help but stand there looking in to see if I could actually see some action. I didn't.
Other than a haunted carriage ride, we sure did get to eat at some amazing places. You can't go to Savannah and not eat at Paula Dean's restaurant The Lady and Sons! Holy chicken pot pie! Come uber hungry, like you didn't eat all day, cause portions are huge and the cocktails are awesome. My husband had a Sweet Tea Moonshine Lemonade that was Amaze-Balls! But the Best thing in all of Savannah, the main reason I will go back is, Zunzis!! Our carriage driver told us about it so we went to lunch there the next day. Zunzi's is a hole in the wall South African restaurant. Everything is to-go which is great because you can enjoy eating in one of Savannah's squares. I can't tell you enough good things about Zunzi's. They make the best home made South African sausage that I ever had! Some items might be strange like mash potatoes and spaghetti together, just go with it, it will rock your world!
All and all Savannah is a very walkable place and its so pretty that you will want to walk every where. I highly recommend putting Savannah, Georgia on your places to go list, and eat list! Savannah also has a ton of food festivals, which is freaking awesome, I recommend checking out the city of Savannah's webs site and seeing when the BBQ festival is happening!
But here is a list of my favorite places to eat in Savannah:
